Bicycle rider killed in Kettleman City collision identified

A man killed June 30 while riding his bicycle on Highway 41 in Kings County has been identified as Juan Manuel Rodarte, 53, of Kettleman City, the Kings County Coroner’s Office said.

Rodarte was hit by a car from behind as he was riding north on the highway in Kettleman City, the California Highway Patrol said.

Driver Omar Hildago was heading north about 6 a.m. when he made an unsafe right turn, driving onto the gravel shoulder, the CHP said. The vehicle hit Rodarte, throwing him into the gravel.

Hildago remained at the site of the collision, and Rodarte was pronounced dead at the scene.
