Highway 198 closed near Coalinga after grass fires threaten road

Highway 198 between Fresno and Monterey counties was closed until at least Tuesday morning, July 5, after two separate fires broke out west of Coalinga.

California Highway Patrol’s dispatch log states a grass fire was found near the highway around 5:30 p.m, burning about one acre and an undefined structure.

CHP’s dispatch log also listed another fire at Highway 198 and Frame Road around 9:30 p.m., about three miles from the county line. Cal Fire requested the highway be closed in both directions at least until Tuesday morning.
