Curry Fire near Coalinga has burned nearly 3,000 acres

The wildfire burning at Highway 198 and Curry Mountain near Coalinga has now spread to 2,944 acres and is 25 percent contained, Cal Fire announced Saturday evening.

The Curry fire started Friday at 5 p.m. and is about seven miles southwest of Coalinga. Highway 198 was closed from east of the junction at Highway 25 in Monterey County to Firestone Avenue in Coalinga, but was scheduled to reopen at 8 p.m. Saturday, Cal Fire said.

An evacuation center has been set up at the Chapel Grace Church in Coalinga, and a large animal evacuation location has been set up at the West Hills College Rodeo Grounds one mile west of Highway 198.
