Dozens of residents, athletes and officers from across Fresno and Clovis hit the streets on Thursday to complete a 9-mile race as part of the annual Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Fresno County law enforcement has raised nearly $7,000 for the Special Olympics of Northern California. Among the runners were Fresno State football coach Tim DeRuyter, athletes Jacob Vazquez, Aaron Mitchell and Trent Soechting and Fresno Grizzlies manager Tony DeFrancesco.

The proceeds from the run benefit 16,000 athletes with Special Olympics Northern California, including nearly 3,00 athletes in Fresno County.

The 2016 Special Olympic Summer Games run from Friday to Sunday at the University of California, Davis.
