Flag Day ceremonies set Tuesday in Fresno, Visalia, Oakhurst
Tuesday is Flag Day, and Valley residents can ceremonially retire their flags by flame in Fresno, Visalia or Oakhurst.
Fresno’s American Legion Post 509 will hold its 80th annual flag retirement ceremony at 10 a.m. During the symbolic anniversary, one flag will be burned ceremoniously. The post will send all flags that have been dropped off to a crematory outside the San Joaquin Valley.
David Neidlinger, 1st Vice Commander at the post, reminds Valley residents that the post has a flag drop-off open all year. The post also will replace any donated flags.
Visalia Veterans Committee invites the public to its annual flag retirement ceremony at 7 p.m. at the Visalia Convention Center, 303 E. Acequia Ave., in front of the Vietnam veterans mural.
Oakhurst Lutheran Church is hosting a Flag Day Celebration that will begin at 6 p.m. with a pulled pork sandwich dinner benefiting the Semper Fi fund. Attendees also will hear from guest speaker Kaci Lutz, California Highway Patrol information officer, former Army captain and Black Hawk helicopter pilot. The Flag Day observance will begin at 7 p.m.

The Marine Corps League Detachment 14 held its flag retirement ceremony and potluck this past weekend.
