Saint Agnes offers art camp for kids dealing with losses
Footsteps of Saint Agnes Medical Center, an expressive arts program for children and teens dealing with difficult losses, is hosting a free summer day camp for Valley children from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 25.
The Camp Sunshine event will be inside the hospital north wing Shehadey Pavilion at 1303 E. Herndon Ave. The camp is open to children 5 to 18 years old who have experienced a significant change due to death, divorce, separation or abandonment.
Participants will get special art instruction led by local art studio instructors from “The Artist in Me”; spend time reflecting in the outdoor labyrinth and meditation garden; play water balloon games; make and sail handmade boats; and interact with four-legged friends from pet therapy programs Saint Agnes Heavenly Hounds and Heart of the Horse Therapy Ranch.
There will also be a grief support group for parents and caregivers, and a healthy breakfast and lunch will be provided.
For more information or to register for the event by June 11, contact Footsteps of Saint Agnes at 559-450-5608. Admission is free, but donations are gladly accepted. Space is limited. For more information, visit the hospital web site.
The Footsteps program also hosts a six-week expressive arts curriculum for children and parents. Classes begin Sept. 15. Families can register by calling Maria Berber at 559-450-5608.
