Woman killed after crashing into power pole north of Hanford
A woman was was killed Tuesday afternoon after her car drifted off Highway 198 and slammed into a power pole north of Hanford, according to Hanford CHP.
The woman, estimated to be 20 to 30 years old, was driving east on Excelsior Avenue when she lost control of her car and struck a large power pole, causing power lines to fall on her car, according to John Tyler with the Hanford CHP. PG&E had to be called out to shut down and remove the lines before the woman could be reached. She was found dead inside the vehicle, according to Tyler.
Excelsior Avenue was shut down until 8 p.m Tuesday, and several PG&E customers in the area were affected by a power outage, said Tyler.
The cause of the crash is still being investigated, and the woman’s identity was not released, pending the notification of family.
