Man who drowned near Reedley Beach identified

Correction: An earlier version of this story had a wrong spelling for the drowning victim.

A man is dead after being swept away in the Kings River near Reedley Beach on Saturday, the Reedley Police Department said.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office identified the man Monday as Eric Tolentino, 21, of Reedley.

Officers were dispatched to Cricket Hollow Park just before 5:30 p.m. after a friend of Tolentino told dispatchers he’d had gone missing in the water.

Several Reedley police officers responded along with Reedley Fire Department Swift Water Rescue and Fresno County Sheriff’s Boat Unit.

Rescue crews found the man and pulled him from the river. He was transported to Adventist Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
