Driver in fatal Fowler crash identified

An early-morning crash Friday left two men dead after the driver of the vehicle heading south on Fowler Avenue drove onto the right shoulder for an unknown reason, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The CHP said Robert Wayne Hamilton Jr., 20, of Fresno was driving a green 1997 Volvo with an unidentified 19-year-old male passenger from Fresno around 4 a.m. Friday when he drove the vehicle into a concrete pillar and wrought iron fence in front of a home on Fowler Avenue, north of Jefferson Avenue.

The CHP said the impact caused major damage to the inside of the vehicle and left both men with fatal injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
