Man struck dead while walking on Highway 99 north of Fresno

A pedestrian walking on Highway 99 was struck and killed by a big rig just north of the Fresno County line Thursday morning, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The collision took place north of Avenue 7 shortly before 5 a.m. The CHP received multiple reports of a man dressed in dark clothing walking in the left southbound lane of the highway shortly before the victim was hit by the truck.

The CHP is trying to determine if the man got out of a car that had crashed in a nearby vineyard.
