Man survives steep drop from waterfall in Madera County

A man was injured in the Madera County foothills after taking a tumble at the Whiskey Creek waterfall in Cascadel Woods.

The fall was reported about 3 p.m.

The man and a woman were walking along rocks when he apparently slipped, said Frank Simonis, a resident in the area and retired paramedic.

He said the man, who was not identified, suffered an injury to his right ankle but no head injury. He was sitting up and conscious, according to scanner reports.

Paramedics will evaluate him for further injuries.

The woman was at the top of the waterfall. She was apparently traumatized and also required rescue because she was at the top of the waterfall on isolated rocks.
