Fresno man hurt after shopping cart gets stuck on railroad tracks
A 35-year-old man was injured Thursday morning when a freight train smacked the shopping cart he was pushing across the railroad tracks at Palm and Dakota avenues.
Fresno police Lt. Joe Gomez said the man, who received a laceration to his head and also injured his neck and back, was heading west on Dakota Avenue at about 9 a.m. when his cart got stuck on the tracks.
Gomez said the man was trying to free his cart when a train began approaching from the south. The train engineer sounded his horn but was unable to stop in time.
“The train hit the cart and the cart hit the victim,” Gomez said.
The man was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was in stable condition, Gomez said.
