Woman dies after driving into canal near Stratford

A woman has died after her car went into an irrigation canal near Stratford, the CHP said.

The woman’s name was not released pending notification of next of kin.

About 1:10 p.m. Thursday, the CHP got a call about a car upside down in a canal.

She had been driving a 2001 Buick LeSabre west on Laurel Avenue west of Highway 41, the CHP said.

For unknown reasons, she allowed the car to travel off the north edge of the road, and the car rolled over on the dirt shoulder and into an irrigation canal.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor, the CHP said.

The case is under investigation.
