Fire officials said a Tuesday night fire at a single-story home in southwest Fresno caused a near-total loss.

Firefighters responded to reports of a fire on 2235 S. Eunice Ave., near Ventura and B streets, around 9:23 p.m., fire battalion chief Don Bier said. Almost half of the home was engulfed in flames as smoke billowed into the night sky.

One person was occupying the house during the blaze and was escorted outside, Bier said. Fire officials said that possibly one person was displaced and could need to arrange shelter through the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Bier said. The blaze caused nearly $80,000 in damage and left the home uninhabitable.

A total of seven units with 18 personnel responded to the fire.
