Two Valley counties and Fresno receive recycling grants

Two San Joaquin Valley counties and the city of Fresno received grants from the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery to safely manage waste and used tires.

Fresno County received $300,000, while Madera County got $175,891 and the city of Fresno received $282,253 in grants through CalRecycle’s Local Government Waste Tire Enforcement Grant Program, spokeswoman Heather Jones said.

The program ensures cities and counties have sufficient funding to enforce compliance for managing waste and used tires, including safe hauling and storage. Typical expenditures include costs related to inspection of tire storage facilities and enforcement activities to prevent illegal dumping.

Funds can also be used for surveillance equipment and employee training.
