Two teenage brothers from the Caruthers area died Saturday after the Pontiac Grand Am they were in was broadsided by a Chevrolet S-10 pickup north of Raisin City.

The Fresno County coroner’s office identified the brothers as 17-year-old Merrick Asher and 15-year-old Mason Asher. One boy was driving while the other was in the backseat when the driver of the Pontiac failed to stop at a stop sign on Henderson Road at Lincoln Avenue. Two other passengers were injured.

The boys’ mother, 58-year-old Tammy Saul, briefly went missing for nearly seven hours Monday before she was walking near the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Henderson Road about 4:45 p.m. Deputies contacted her and a sheriff’s chaplain was called to meet with her, sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti said.
