Mobile home southwest of Fresno damaged by grass fire

A mobile home received several thousand dollars of damage Sunday after a well pump southwest of Fresno caught fire and ignited the surrounding grass, Fresno fire said.

The fire was initially reported as a vegetation fire in the 1600 block of South Blythe Avenue around 3:15 p.m., fire spokesman Hector Vasquez said. When the fire firefighters arrived on scene and saw a nearby mobile home was close to the flames, the response was upgraded to a structure fire.

One fire investigator, two battalion chiefs and 20 firefighters were on scene, Vasquez said. The fire was contained in around 10 minutes.

There was around $5,000 worth of damage to the outside of the mobile home, Vasquez said.

Vasquez added that fire officials urge anyone living in rural areas with dry brush to maintain 100 feet of defensible space or clearance around structures.
