Hail reported at Yosemite; winds blowing across central San Joaquin Valley
Hail fell at Wawona in Yosemite National Park Monday morning as a cold storm moved along the Sierra.
The hailstorm began at the southern end of the park after 10 a.m. and continued for about an hour.
Yosemite’s forecast for Monday predicts snow showers and breezy conditons. The low Monday night at Yosemite Village is forecast to fall to near 20 degrees.
Farther south, a slight flurry of snow fell at Hume Lake around 11 a.m. Webcams stationed at the Hume Lake Christian Camps showed snowflakes falling for a few minutes against a backdrop of leaden clouds.
A wind advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for much of the central San Joaquin Valley until 8 p.m. Monday. Sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph are expected in Los Banos, Coalinga, Mendota, Fresno, Hanford, Lemoore, Corcoran and Avenal. Blowing dust could create visibility problems along area highways, the NWS said.
