Hundreds of volunteers expected for FIRM playground construction

A playground designed by the kids who will use it is expected to come to life Saturday at Fresno Interdenominational Refugee Ministries (FIRM) in central Fresno.

Ministry officials said more than 200 volunteers representing Kaiser Permanente, KaBOOM! and the community at large are expected to help build the playground at its location at 1940 N. Fresno St. A kickoff ceremony is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place after the playground is completed at 1 p.m.

Officials say they expect more than 800 children to use the playground.

Children helped envision the playground during a design day in February.
