Highway 99 roadwork will close ramps and lanes in Madera County

Ramp closures and alternating lane closures will take place on southbound Highway 99 at Avenue 12 in Madera County beginning Wednesday, the California Department of Transportation said.

The closures will take place as construction crews execute a traffic switch that will place eastbound and westbound traffic on Avenue 12 in its new, permanent location, spokesman Cory Burkharth said.

The southbound Highway 99 off-ramp to Avenue 12 will be closed starting Wednesday, around midnight, through Friday at 11:59 p.m, Burkharth said. The on-ramp will be closed intermittently from Wednesday around midnight through Friday at 11:59 p.m.

Alternating lane closures on Highway 99 will occur from Wednesday through Friday between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily, Burkharth said.

Avenue 12, between Golden State Boulevard and Madera Community College, will be reduced to one lane in each direction from Wednesday to Friday between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily, Burkharth said. New traffic signals will be installed at four locations in the area and traffic will be held for about 10 minutes at a time while old signal poles are removed.
