Although Fresno State is expecting a full house at the Save Mart Center for Paul McCartney’s tour-opening performance on Wednesday, university officials aren’t expecting any major traffic problems.

Fresno State parking and transportation manager Thomas Gaffery said the show’s 8 p.m. start time will keep the concertgoers from colliding with typical rush-hour or Fresno State student traffic, which would have required a different plan.

“We expect traffic similar to other large events,” he said.

Gaffery recommends visitors enter the Save Mart Center from the north. Drivers can take Barstow Avenue from either direction before turning south on Woodrow Avenue, where a traffic control officer will direct them to venue parking or the available student lot. Most of the congestion, he added, happens on Shaw and Chestnut avenues, because people always take those routes.

Gaffery also suggests that people carpool and arrive early.

Spokesmen for the California Highway Patrol and Fresno Police Department both said no additional traffic control or action is planned for the concert.

The Save Mart Center show will open McCartney’s “One on One” tour.
