Woman killed after vehicle struck by big rig near Fowler

A woman was killed Thursday afternoon after her vehicle was struck by a big rig while crossing an intersection south of Fowler, the California Highway Patrol said.

The Fresno County Coroner on Friday identified the victim as Shima Davoudi Kanderagh, 23. Her hometown was not available, said sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti.

Officers responded to the traffic collision around 4:27 p.m. after a white Toyota Corolla traveling north on Clovis Avenue was struck by a big rig traveling east on Manning Avenue, Sgt. Manuel Peregrina said.

Kanderagh was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, where she was pronounced dead, Peregrina said.

A witness told the CHP that Kanderagh attempted to stop at the intersection, which has a two-way stop sign for Clovis Avenue, but he wasn’t sure if it was a complete stop, Peregrina said. The witness said the big rig tried to slow down before the collision.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
