21-year-old Madera man killed in solo vehicle crash

A 21-year-old Madera man was killed Wednesday morning when his vehicle went off the roadway and struck a tree in Madera, police said.

Officers responded to a fatal solo vehicle crash that occurred on Granada Drive, just north of Driftwood Drive, around 4:46 a.m., Detective Sgt. Johnnie Smith said. Arthur Silva, 21, was traveling south on Granada Drive when his vehicle crossed the northbound lanes and struck a tree.

It appeared Silva may have been unconscious at the time of the crash due to no signs of deceleration and the high rate of speed upon impact, Smith said. Silva also was not wearing a seat belt, and the driver’s steering wheel airbag didn’t deploy.
