Firefighters go to blaze at abandoned building in southwest Fresno

Firefighters responded Monday night to a commercial fire in southwest Fresno.

They went to a building near B and Calaveras streets after receiving multiple reports about 11 p.m., battalion chief Thomas Cope said.

The cause of the fire was unknown and there was no gas or electrical service to the building, Cope said. “It doesn’t look like the structure is in active use.”

There were appliances, household goods and a mattresses inside the building, Cope said. “The back door was not secure, so there may have been people occupying it.” There was no one present when firefighters arrived.
