A man was in surgery early Friday and in critical condition after he was struck by a pickup while crossing a street west of Highway 99.
The crash occurred about 7:30 a.m. A 58-year-old man stepped off an eastbound city bus just east of Marks Avenue, Lt. Joe Gomez said.
As he walked across Clinton Avenue mid-block, the driver of an eastbound vehicle in the right lane narrowly missed him. He was then struck by the pickup driver, who was eastbound in the left lane.
Gomez said the pedestrian was at fault, but the pickup driver would be cited because he had a suspended license with multiple minor traffic warrants.
Clinton Avenue was closed between Marks and Vasser avenues until about noon. The crash is under investigation.
