The Visalia Fire Department is trying to make its community safer by delivering fire prevention information and smoke detectors in areas known for high numbers of fires, Battalion Chief Danny Wristen said.
Wristen said the fire department recently partnered with the American Red Cross to canvass local neighborhoods in the Lincoln Oval area to install smoke alarms.
Up to 40 community volunteers joined Fire Prevention and Fire Suppression personnel visited more than 500 homes and installed 114 smoke detectors in 83 homes, Wristen said.
Fire prevention education was provided at those homes and existing smoke detectors were also inspected.
