Sandra Hernandez of Fresno has won $750,000 after buying a lottery scratcher, California Lottery officials say.
She purchased the $10 lucky ticket at Amigos Food Market at the corner of Church and Cedar avenues in southeast Fresno.
“When Hernandez told her family about her win, they didn’t believe her,” said lottery official Alex Traverso. “Not until she showed them proof.”
Hernandez says she plans on using her winnings to buy a house and invest the rest.

She told state lottery officials she did not want any media interviews or to provide any further information.
At the customer service counter at Amigos Food Market, a California Lottery sign next to the store’s lottery ticket machine flashes a message that the shop sold the winning ticket on March 8. Store manager Maged Abdullah also taped up a photocopy of Hernandez’s winning ticket for display.
Abdullah said he knows the Hernandez family well because they are regular customers and frequently buy scratcher tickets. “I think it’s going to the right hands,” he said. “They deserve it.”
He added that while the store has sold winning tickets in the past for prizes of a couple thousand dollars, Hernandez’ $750,000 score is the biggest prize so far. “Hopefully this is the beginning of some serious luck here,” Abdullah said.
The stores that sell winning tickets for big prizes can get a reward, but only for prizes of $1 million or more, said Elias Dominguez, a lottery spokesman. Because the Amigos ticket fell under that threshold, Dominguez added, the store won’t receive any cash.
