Accident near Hanford kills 1, leaves another with major injuries

A vehicle accident near Hanford killed a female driver and left a child passenger with major injuries, the California Highway Patrol said.

The accident happened at the intersection of 18th and Kansas avenues in Kings County on March 9, the CHP said.

The CHP said a female driver, a Hanford resident who was not identified pending notification of the family, was driving her 2016 Scion south on 18th Avenue, north of Kansas Avenue when the driver of a westbound 2000 Freightliner drove into the path of her car after failing to stop.

The Scion struck the right side of the Freightliner and was dragged approximately 300 feet west of the intersection, the CHP said.

The female driver died on scene and her 3-year-old passenger, also from Hanford, suffered major injuries and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

The driver of the Freightliner, identified as Jose Torres, of Dos Palos, was not injured in the crash. The CHP does not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call Hanford CHP at 559-582-0231.
