Oceanside man killed crossing Highway 99 in downtown Fresno

A 41-year-old Oceanside man was killed after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Highway 99 in downtown Fresno early Sunday, the California Highway Patrol said.

The pedestrian was hit by an unknown vehicle after walking onto the northbound lanes of the highway between Fresno and Tuolumne streets around 2:45 a.m., the CHP said. He died at the scene.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation because there wasn’t any witnesses, the CHP said. Anyone with information is asked to call the Fresno CHP office at 559-441-5441.

Correction: The CHP has corrected information it originally released concerning the incident that killed Earl Jones. He was from Fowler, not Oceanside. He was killed on northbound Highway 99 in Fowler at 2:45 a.m. on March 6. The CHP continues to seek witnesses to that hit and run. Anyone with information can call 559-441-5441.
