Fresno State Army ROTC celebrates 100 years

Fresno State’s Army ROTC program celebrated the U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps’ 100th anniversary with the 2016 JROTC Raider Challenge on Saturday.

Junior RTOC programs from nine Valley high schools participated in the Raider Challenge, Fresno State said. The 10 events included a road march, situational awareness and critical thinking tests, a grenade assault course, a physical fitness challenge and drill and ceremony.

Col. Roger P. Hedgepeth, who was commissioned second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps at Fresno State in 1991, was honored for his nomination by Fresno State to the National Army ROTC Hall of Fame. He is commander of the 3rd Military Police Group in Savannah, Georgia.

The ROTC program presented $2,700 raised during the “Veterans Day 5K Run” in November to the Clovis Veterans Memorial District and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3225.
