Hanford man riding bicycle hit by car

A man riding a bicycle was hit by a vehicle on 12th Avenue and badly injured, Hanford police said Wednesday.

About 6:30 p.m. Monday, police received a call about a vehicle hitting a bicyclist on 12th Avenue south of Hanford-Armona Road.

Bicyclist Rick Collins, 62, had life-threatening injuries and was air lifted to a Community Regional Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition.

Police said a vehicle driven by Jaime Luera was heading south on 12th Ave as the bike rider was traveling south along the east curb opposing traffic when he suddenly crossed to the west side of the street into the path of the vehicle.

There’s no indication that alcohol or drugs are involved.
