Fresno children draw their dream playgrounds
Children from Fresno Interdenominational Refugee Ministries, or FIRM, put markers to paper and drew their dream playgrounds as part of Design Day on Thursday, Feb. 18.
Elements from the drawings will be incorporated into the design of a new playground to be built April 23 at FIRM, 1940 N. Fresno St.
FIRM is located across the street from Summerset Apartments, which is home to more than 1,000 Southeast Asian residents. Summerset recently suffered through a local state of emergency when they did not have heating, hot water or the ability to cook for months. This playground will directly serve the Summerset Apartment community, as well as the greater community surrounding the FIRM campus.
Following the one-hour drawing session, adult volunteers met for an additional hour to discuss plans for the new playground.
Kaiser Permanente and the national non-profit KaBOOM! will help fund the playground in the second such play area collaboration.
