Susan G. Komen Central Valley announced Wednesday that it’s moving its 18th annual Race for the Cure fundraiser to Chukchansi Park in downtown Fresno.

Organizers say the move will help tighten the budget for the Sept. 17 event while allowing more funds to be available for life-saving programs for early breast cancer detection, payment for mammograms and diagnostics.

The Race for the Cure, previously held on the Fresno State campus, is an annual highlight on the San Joaquin Valley running circuit. This year’s events will get started with a 5K at 7:30 a.m, survivor’s ceremony at 9 a.m. and walk at 10 a.m. Komen Central Valley will begin taking race registration and donations online at www.komencentralvalley.org beginning April 1.

Komen also announced that it will partner with the Fresno Grizzlies to present a special Star Wars “Force for the Cure” Night at Chukchansi Park on June 11, commemorating the event with a one-of-a-kind pink light saber offer.
