Pedestrian killed in central Fresno crash Wednesday

A man attempting to cross the roadway at Golden State Boulevard and McKinley Avenue was fatally injured after being struck by a four-door Buick Wednesday evening, Fresno Police Lt. Dave Ramos said.

The victim was described as an African American man in his 40s who was still breathing when officers responded but died as medical personnel were arriving, Ramos said.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with police. Ramos said the area where the crash occurred is dark, and the driver may not have seen the pedestrian in time to stop when the collision happened around 6 p.m.

Ramos said Golden State Boulevard is closed between Pine and McKinley avenues for the crash investigation.
