Bands of rain showers made their way into the central San Joaquin Valley on Friday afternoon as the next storm arrives across the region.

The National Weather Service reported 0.17 inches for Merced, 0.26 in Madera, and 0.09 in Fresno. No rain was measured yet in Hanford or Visalia.

It will continue raining overnight, with another quarter to a half-inch possible in Fresno. Temperatures will fall into the low 50s.

Rain will continue to mid-morning Saturday, then turn to showers. Sunday will begin with some patchy fog but is forecast to be sunny as the storm will have moved eastward.

No snow was reported on Friday afternoon, but it was expected to start falling sometime in the evening.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the Sierra, with 10 to 20 inches of new snow expected above 7,000 feet. Motorists heading to the mountains should have chains and be prepared to put them on.
