Fresno police recovered a loaded .44 Magnum handgun from a gang member late Sunday night in southeast Fresno, Sgt. Justin Hoagland reported.

The arrest took place about 11 p.m. near Third Street and Belmont Avenue, after officers reported that Gregory Beza, 28, committed a traffic violation while riding a bicycle.

Hoagland said Beza discarded the weapon in front of officers. The barrel of the revolver had been sawed off, he said. Officers are trying to determine if the weapon was stolen.
