Kaweah Delta Health Care District offers free health management workshops

The Visalia-based Kaweah Delta Health Care District is accepting sign-ups for six-week free health management workshops that begin in February.

The Empowerment for Better Living: Chronic Disease Self-Management workshop is designed to help people with ongoing health problems such as diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, asthma or other chronic conditions, said Dru Quesnoy, director of marketing. Classes typically consist of 12 to 18 participants and last around 2 1/2 hours.

The first workshop begins Feb. 4 and is held every Thursday at The Lifestyle Center, 5105 W. Cypress Ave. in Visalia, Quesnoy said.

The other workshops take place at the Chronic Disease Management Center at 325 S. Willis St. in Visalia, beginning Feb. 10 and are held every Wednesday.

Topics covered include: dealing with difficult emotions, managing symptoms, goal setting, problem solving, nutrition, understanding medications and more, Quesnoy said.

Participants in the workshop, designed by a doctor at Stanford University, demonstrated significant improvements in the areas covered, Quesnoy said. They also reported fewer hospitalizations and outpatient visits.
