Female pedestrian killed by vehicle west of Highway 99

A female pedestrian was killed in a crash Thursday evening west of Highway 99, Fresno police said.

Officers responded to Shields and Valentine avenues around 7:40 p.m. to investigate the accident, Lt. Ron Hughes said.

Emergency personnel and officers rendered first aid to a woman in her 70s. She was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and cooperated with officers and investigators from the collision reconstruction unit, Hughes said. It appeared alcohol wasn’t a factor in the accident.

Both directions of Shields avenue are currently closed at Valentine avenues for at least two hours while the investigation continues, Hughes said.
