Utility work will close Highway 99 in Fresno in waves for 4 hours Sunday

Utility work will close Highway 99 in Fresno in waves for four hours Sunday morning, the California Department of Transportation said.

The California Highway Patrol will stop traffic on both sides of Highway 99 in 10 minute intervals from 4 to 8 a.m. on both sides of the McKinley Avenue overpass to allow crews from Pacific Gas and Electric to remove disconnected power lines that cross overhead, Caltrans spokeswoman Gloria Rodriguez said.

Traffic will be allowed to travel for 10 minutes between each interval, Rodriguez said. Onramps near the utility work will be closed and controlled by the CHP.

Travelers are encouraged to avoid this area or add extra time to their morning commute during the work, Rodriguez said.
