Ventura County man killed in rollover crash on I-5 in Fresno County

A Ventura County man died when the pickup he was driving overturned on Interstate 5 southwest of Mendota on Wednesday evening.

The victim was identified by the Fresno County Coroner as Rickey Lawson, 62, of Ventura. The California Highway Patrol reported that Lawson was the driver of a Ford F250 pickup that was heading north on I-5, north of Panoche Road, shortly before 7:40 p.m. Investigators said the pickup drifted off the right shoulder of the road and struck a concrete wall, then veered across the freeway and struck a guardrail in the center median before overturning.

Lawson, who was the lone occupant in the pickup, was not wearing a seat belt, the CHP reported, and he was killed when he was thrown from the vehicle as it overturned. No other vehicles were involved in the mishap.
