Woman dies after rollover crash on Highway 180 near Reedley

A woman was fatally injured Tuesday after she veered off Highway 180 near Reedley and hit a large rock, causing her car to flip before landing back on the roadway, the California Highway Patrol said.

Officer Carlos Gutierrez said the crash occurred around 3:15 p.m. Investigators are still not sure what caused the driver to leave the highway. She was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center by ambulance but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The woman’s identity was not released pending notification of her family, but Gutierrez said she was in her late 60s.

Both sides of Highway 180 near Cove Avenue were closed for about 45 minutes after the accident.
