Christmas spirit: Golden Girls honor worker at their usual Clovis hangout with a bike
The Golden Girls, a group of about 20 women who meet once a week at the El Pollo Loco restaurant on Shaw Avenue in Clovis, adopted the spirit of the season Tuesday to honor a favorite employee.
The group surprised Shane Cory with a new bicycle.
Member Julie Kiser said the group decided that an act of kindness was in order for Shane, who the members describe as “a cashier/friend/humorist/adopted grandson.”
Kiser said the Golden Girls noticed that Cory’s bike had become rundown in the nearly two years they’ve known him, due to his 14-mile round trip to work from his home near Fresno Yosemite International Airport. The Golden Girls pooled their money to buy the new $400 bike from Sunnyside Bicycles in Fresno.
Cory thanked the group Tuesday and said he’d pass along his old bike to his son, who is a cook at another El Pollo Loco.
