New chief named for Fresno’s U.S. Attorney’s Office
Kirk Sherriff, a longtime federal prosecutor in Fresno’s federal courts, will take over as head of Fresno’s U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Sherriff replaces longtime Fresno chief Mark Cullers, who has been appointed a Fresno County Superior Court judge by Gov. Jerry Brown. He had headed the Fresno office since 2003.
The Fresno office reports to Benjamin Wagner, U.S. Attorney for California’s eastern federal judicial district, who is based in Sacramento.
Sherriff was hired in 2002 and worked five years in the civil division before joining the criminal division. For the past three years, he has headed up the Fresno office’s white collar crimes unit. Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Sherriff spent six years with a major international law firm in New York and Paris. He is a cum laude graduate of both Columbia University and Harvard Law School.
