Head-on collision near Kingsburg kills two, leaves 5-year-old in critical

Two people died and a 5-year-old girl was left in critical condition Thursday after a head-on collision south of Kingsburg.

The collision happened around 5:20 p.m. when the driver of a 2002 Chevy collided with a Honda Civic carrying four or five people, CHP Sgt. Mike Trenholm said. The Chevy then went into a nearby drainage ditch, where the driver broke his leg.

The accident took place near the intersection of Clarkson and Bethel avenues, near the Kingsburg Cemetery. Two people in the Honda Civic, one male and one female, were killed and a 5-year-old child was taken by helicopter to Community Regional Medical Center, where she is listed in critical condition with severe head trauma.

One or two other people were in the Civic at the time, Trenholm said, but had minor injuries.

Officers are investigating the cause of the accident.
