Fire engulfed an abandoned southwest Fresno home late Wednesday night.

It was the sixth structure fire and fourth working fire of the day for the Fresno Fire Department.

Firefighters rushed to the fire at around 10:37 p.m. at 1022 Waterman Ave., near Edison High School, Fresno Fire Battalion Chief Don Bier said. They found the abandoned, single-story home engulfed in flames.

The fire was extinguished in minutes. Bier said that the cause of the fire could be squatters who sought shelter at the home.

A total of three engines and two trucks responded to the fire.
