Tulare County inmate found unconscious in cell pronounced dead
A 50-year-old inmate found unconscious in his single cell in a jail infirmary has died, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department said Monday.
Michael Garland Starr of Pixley was found about 8:45 p.m. Sunday by correctional deputies at the Tulare County Adult Pre-Trial Facility during a security check of inmates.
Deputies and medical staff administered medical aid and emergency medical services and a fire crew responded.
Starr was taken by ambulance to Kaweah Delta Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The cause of death is pending an autopsy with the Tulare County Coroner’s Office.
Starr was arrested Dec. 7 on suspicion of manufacturing a controlled substance, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of a controlled substance and possession of concentrated cannabis.
