A car crash on Interstate 5 in Kings County left one person dead and another injured on Saturday.
At 8:35 a.m., Benjammin Chiem, 57, from San Francisco, fell asleep while driving a 2001 Honda CRV south on Interstate 5, south of Utica Avenue, and crashed into an unoccupied 2007 Cadillac Escalade that was parked on the right shoulder of the freeway, the California Highway Patrol said.
A passenger in the right front seat of the CRV, a 60-year-old woman, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Chiem suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment.
The female victim’s name is being held by the Kings County Coroner until her next of kin are notified.
The collision remains under investigation by the CHP.
