Hospital patient drives need for more blood donors
A patient being kept alive in a Valley hospital with blood donations and has caused a depletion in supplies requiring more help from the public, the Central California Blood Center said Wednesday.
Since Monday, this one patient has received over 130 blood and blood components donated over the past few days, the Central California Blood Center said. In just two days, the patient has used half of what is generally needed to support all patients in 30 area hospitals each day.
The Central California Blood Center needs male platelet donors as well as whole blood donors. The Valley’s O-negative blood supply is at 9 percent.
The Fresno donation centers are at 4343 W. Herndon Ave., 1196 E. Shaw Ave. Suite 102, and 1010 E. Perrin Ave. The Visalia donation center is at 1515 S. Mooney Blvd.
