Madera restricts outdoor watering to one day per week

Outdoor watering is now limited to only one day per week in Madera after the City Council voted to implement the city’s Drought Water Restriction Level C on Nov. 18.

The move helps Madera meet the state’s 28 percent water consumption reduction mandate. The council acknowledged that many people shut off their irrigation during the winter and the new schedule ensures that trees and shrubs survive.

Madera will focus its enforcement during the first 30 days of the new schedule on informing the public instead of fines. The schedule remains in effect until March 1 and will revert to level-B restrictions that allow outdoor watering two days per week.
