Visalia firefighters put out ‘suspicious’ blaze in unoccupied home

The Visalia Fire Department put out a heavy fire Saturday afternoon in an unoccupied North Visalia home.

Firefighters responded at 3:25 p.m. to 1010 W. Goshen Ave. They saw heavy fire and smoke showing from one side of the boarded-up home.

The fire started in one of the bedrooms. The exact cause was not determined, but firefighters called it “suspicious.”

Some firefighters attacked it from inside while others removed plywood that was covering all the doors and windows. The fire was contained within 15 minutes.

The property owner, who came to the scene, said the house has been unoccupied and without utilities for around four years.

The fire caused no injuries but did cause about $45,000 in damage to the property and $5,000 to what was inside.

Four fire engines, one truck and 16 personnel responded to the fire.
